Finding purpose in dark times

Sometimes it's hard to see a purpose when we go through dark places in life. Sometimes when we're right in the middle of a painful event, we just want to say to God, why is this happening? I think that we often place the blame on God when bad things happen, when the reality is that we live in a fallen and very broken world, and we all have freewill to choose how we live our lives. Sometimes this means that bad things just happen. Sometimes it means that some people hurt us or others. We can know without a doubt that through all the brokenness of this world, God has a better plan for each and every one of us, far better than what we could have for ourselves. God's timing is also not the same as our timing, and he has proven to me again and again that his timing is always the best, I just have to be patient if things aren't working out the way I planned and trust in him and his purpose for my life. And, the most amazing thing is that we have a God that loves us so much that he sent his son Jesus to die for each one of us, and that in doing so he came into our broken world and experienced the very pain that we do. He doesn't just offer shallow words of comfort, he actually understands because he lived it.

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future," -Jeremiah 29:11 NIV.
